Details of ZL2XX R. A. B. McDONAGH sends the following notes:- ~ ZL2XX, 31.4 metres. On the air on Wednesday night. On ’phoning them they arranged a test and gave a eall, followed by records. This station will be on the air from time to time. Address is Western Hlectric Co., Box 605, Wellington. On the first occasion they were calling Rotorua and Dunedin for fest. The writer compliments the staSion for strength and clarity. W2XAF,- about 31 metres, was on testing at excellent strength last week. Records on two valves came out on the speaker. He called 2MBE to ask about Miss Johnson. About 11 p.m. he begame gushy. Thursday, 5th, 2XX was working Dunedin. 2XAF came on with Sydney, but was not too clear. W83XAL is usually at his best from £30 to 5.80 p.m. on Sundays. Bighty metres, in the early evenings nnd Sunday mornings and nights, Shere is plenty of variety here, not to mention some very good records. ZL2BA is testing and asks for reports from the West Coast. Forty metres, a number of Victorian amateurs may be heard here at times. A description of station ZL2XxX, which came on the air for the firsi. time under that name on Wednesday, June 4, was supplied me by the Western Electric Co. (N.Z.), Ltd., Hope Gibbons Buildings, Wellington, per Mr. W. G. Leatham. Oscillator 5 watt. 450 v. Frequency double 5 watts 500 ec Modulation 2-5 watters 500 v. First straight amplifier 5 watts 500 vy. Power amplifier 2-50 watters in push-pull 800 v. The input was 82.5 watts at that time of working with radiation of .8 amperes. The station will be on the air from time to time. As an experiment I tried the ecarborundum crystal set and could hear the mnsie fairly clear.
