Sunday, April 20. ws XAD at pion was Ri-2, increasing to R5 at p.m. Soon after 2 p.m, there was no sigh of this station. W2xXAF were very gushy at 2 p.m, ‘being R83. Volume and quality soon improved, being R8-9 by 8:30 p.m. NRH, which till now has-been an ‘identified station, was tuned in about 2.30 p.m. on 30.5 metres, A clock was heard just after 2.380 p.m., followed by 4 metronome till an orchestra commenced, Volume abba bhacniacbtddnacchanencasananannnnhacth Bacabsbacthantan
was R5, but modulation was very poor. When signing off at 2.48 p.m. all that could be distinguished of a long = announcement wis "this finishes our proramme." Two languages are used, panish and English. W6XN was very good from tyning-in at 2.80 p.m., when they were R8, till they closed down. A morse station on the same frequency blotted out W6XN at times. On closing, a "Sunrise Easter Service" was announced to commence at 4 a.m. with an organ recital, followed at 5 am. with a sérvice. W8XK (KDKA) were RS at 3.45 -p.m. on 48.86 metres (no sign. of them on their lower wavelength), with a programme for Admiral Byrd. An early morning Bagster service was relayed froin 4:30 pim. (midnight in Pittsbureh) till 5 p.m. from the Presbyterian Church, Pittsburgh, for the special. benefit of
those in the Far North, the Orinaws Expedition, Byrd’s Antarctic Wxpedition, ete. This came through very well at W2XBH were R4 at 5 p.m. but was spoilt by rapid. tading: IXR, Radio Manila, were R8 at 7.50 p.m. The volume was thé game when reopening again at .B0. p.th. us RAOQ7 static was, if possible, worse than usual, fe Monday, April 21. FEESHN at 7 a.m. were RY, with choral music. W2XAD were only audible for a short time about 1.30 p.m., being R2 at their best. WSXK at 4+ p.m. were R2-3, increasing to R8 by 415 pm. Again they were on 48.86 metres only. Reports were asked for to be sent ¢/o William Penn Hotel, Pittsburgh, W2XH was _very weik at 4,30 p.m-not readable. RA97 again spoilt by statie. Tuesday, April 22. GTATIC was very bad on short waves both morning arid evenjng. Zeesen, RS at 6.45 am. 41.6 metie strongor, just atidible through QRN. W6XN, Rb at7Tp.m. KIXR, R65 at 9.50 pm RAQ97, R910 p.m. Wednesday, April 23. 5Sw at 6.15 a.m. their carrier only was audible. At 7 4m. music was R4, but very gushy. . . Zessen was only RS at 6.20 a.m, but increased to RO by 7 am. The earfier only was heard of the 41.6 metre station, 2ME and GBX were both vety good at 7 pm. with duplex through the post office at either end. RAOQT were R8 on 70 mettes and R6 on 85 metres, first harmonic. RIXR were tuned in at 8.30 p.m., when they gave the time as 5 p.m. and were signing off till 6 p.m. Strength was R7 with plenty of static and morse QRM. At 9.80 p.m. volume had decreased to Thursday, April 24. THIS was a poor day for. recéption, 4" most signals being weak and mushy. 58W inaudible at 6.10 am. RB at 7 a.m., but very gushy. Zeesen, R5 at 6.20, increasing to R8 by 7.80 a.m. 2MB and GBX were good strength at 8 p.m. but not so clear as usual, KIXR was weaker than usual, while RA97 was swamped hy static. _ Friday, April, 25, Pp was not tuned in till 7.15 a.m., when they were R8 with plenty of static and mush. They signed off at 7.40 a.m. ‘"Zeesen at 7.80 am was R8. ’ GBX and 2ME were both R9 at 7.15 when the telephone girls at each énd were talkin& about the weather, ete. 5SW at 7.20 am. were RT7-8, very gushy. The Greenwich time signal was heard at-7.80 am. It was anndunced that G5SW would be on the air on Saturday from 1800 to 2300 G.M.T. An organ recital came through fairly well afte¥ a.m. W6XN was RD at 2 p.m. with the "Baxwell Coffee Hour" till 2.80 p.m. This was followed by the RCA and Viector C: How. Volume reached R9 by 5
p.m. W2XAF was fair volume, but was troubled with a background of noise. _ W8XAL at 4 pm. were R8, and, except fox. slight gush aid static, quite good. W8XK signed off at 4.43 p.m., being R7 at their best. _ ; 7 was almost from at 8.20 p.m. when tuned in, An otchestra was quite good at R9. This was followed by the news of the world as regards revolutions, woollen mills strike, com muynist activities, ete., by a lady talking in Bnglish. She concluded by giving thé call as "This is station RB16, Khabarovsk, on 70 metres." -Thé call was: iepeated in English and then givén in Russian, after which that language only was heard. | . KIXR, with Victor recordings. from 9,30 p.m., were excellent at R8-9, except for slight .slow fading. Saturday, April 26. GTATION PCJ was perfect from 6 a.m, till. 7.30 a.m., being R8 at first, decreasing to RT-8. 2 and. GBX on duplex at 6.10 a.m. were RO and R8 respectively. F The 41.6-metre station was R8 at 6.20 a.m. ° ‘ a "e . SSW was quite good at R9 when "tuned in at 610 am. A talk was in progress about allotments and smallholdings. Every word was cleatly vendable, The musical progiamme com menced at 6.15 a.m. x . Zeesen was excellent at RY from 6.30 a.m. with orchestral items. PCJ was very poor during the afternoon; R1 at 1 pm., ,with a véry slow incréase to R$ at 4.80 pm. After, this volume in¢réeased more rapidly, but quality was poor’ till the conclusion at 5,30 p.m., by which time voluite was R&-9. Siznals were qushy all through the transmission. from Ri at 1 p.m. increaseé to RY by 4.30 p.m. The last hour's programme was from the Hotel St. Regis, New York City. . -WP2XAD with the same programme as W2XAF was RB at 1 p.m., increasing
