RRAv1I0 listeners throughout New Zealand will regret to" hear of the death of Mr. Hamiora Hakopa, the Maori announcer’ who took a leading part in the presentation’ of: the Radio Pageant of the Maori Race at 2YA in 1928 and 1929. He was a well-edu-cated native .and,. as listeners know, he spoke splendid English. His descripton of the various phases of the .pagt contributed materially: to the sucSS which attended each -broadcast. . When news of Mr. Hakopa’s death, which was due to pneumonia, was received by 2YA appropriate reference was made by the announcer. His death came as a great shock to the members of the Wanganui Maori Party, in whom the spirit of camaraderie is particular.ly strong.
