World Radio
BBHAM wireless station. is shortly ; to be erected in the new Vatican City, and on special occasions the Pope himself will broadcast to the world, The Roman Catholic community is taking a great deal of interest in this new departure, especially as the range of the station will be world wide. . The installation will embody the latest improvements in, wireless design and construction, and it is receiving the personal supervision of the Marchese Marconi. Communication will be carried out both by telegraphy and b short-wave telephony. [t has been reported recently that, by the adaption of wireless to an old: trick, a gang of swindlers in Berlin have been defrauding German bookmakers to the extent of thousands ,of pounds. The gang had in Berlin a secret wireless station by means of which they received French racing results before they were generally available elsewhere. One of the gang was always on duty at the receiver, and, when he received the result, telephoned an accomplice who then wrote the winning ~ numbers conspicuously on a newspaper. With this in his hand, he walked past the open door of the book- maker’s office, thus acquainting a confederate within with the result. It appears that this fraud might have gone on indefinitely had not members of the gang tried to swindle one another. This seems to contradict the old saying that "there is honour among thieves."
