ON Sunday evening a special festival service of "Christ the King" will be broadcast from St. Gerard’s Redemptorist Church, the preacher on this oceasion being the Rev. Father T. Robin-son,-C.S.S.R. The choir will be conducted by Mr. Frank J. Oakes and the organist will be Mr. Henry Mount. At the conclusion of the church broadcast the Port Nicholson Silver Band, under the conductorship of Mr. J. J. Drew, and with the assistance of 2YA artists, will provide a studio programme of interest and merit. The outstanding band items will include the selection "Faust," a meditation "Requiem" (arranged by a4 local musician, Mr. Chas. Ross), a cornet duet, "The Miserere Scene" from "Tl Trovatore," and an intermezzo, "Cosette," the work of a well-known local musician, Mr. Frank Crowther. John Prouse (baritone), Mr. Harry Phipps (tenor), and Miss Hvelyn Robinson (contralto). ON Monday evening Mr. BE. H. Dowsett, secretary of the Howard League for Penal Reform, will deliver a lecturette on "Prisons of Two Centuries." The subject is one that Mr..
Dowsett has studied very closely, and his talk is bound to prove thought-pro-voking and interesting. The programme for the concert session will be of a high order, the contributing artists being that talented combination, the Ariel Singers, the Studio Orchestrina, under Signor Truda, Miss Dorothy Innes (a talented young pianiste from the studio of Mr. Gordon Short), and Mrs. Martyn Williams, one of Wellington’s leading teachers of elocution. A
brief recital of organ numbers will be given by Mr. Henry Mount during the evening. Mr. Mount is the organist of St. Gerard’s Redemptorist Church, and has had experience both in England and abroad. His items will be Lefe-pure-Wely’s "Grand Offertoire," Coleridge Taylor’s "Lament," and the "March in’ D" by Spohr. The orches-
trina, under the conductorship of Signor Truda, will play the tone poem "Winlandia" as an opening number, a portion of Mozart’s "Jupiter. Symphony," Friedman’s "Slavonic Rhapsody," a song suite of "Three. French Songs," Pierne’s "Serenade," a characteristique, "La Fileuse,’’? and Strauss’s well-known concert. waltz, "Wine, Women, and Song." A LIGHT popular programme will be presented on Tuesday. evening by the Studio Salon Orchestra, under Mr. M. T. Dixon. The assisting vocal artists will include Mr. Val Jones (baritone),; who will be heard in several ballad numbers, and Miss Anne Davies (soprano). ‘Humorous items will be given by Mr. Len Ashton, the wellknown entertainer,.- and Mr. Spéncer Furrell will feature songs of a popular nature. From 9.30 until 11 p.m. listeners will be entertained with a Brunswick dance programme. ON Thursday evening at 7.35 Mr. W. M. Jackson, gladioli expert, will speak on "Gladioli and Gardening Hints." On Thursday evening the concert of the Wellington Symphony Orcrestra will be relayed from the Town all. © es ose pee oe ON Friday evening Mr. R. R. Money will deliver another .of his: interesting talks on aviation; his subject on this occasion being. "lying ‘ Without Fears.’ The talk will serve to dispel several misapprehensions quite a number of people labour-under as ‘to
the safety of flying. The concert programme on Friday evening. will feature the Philharmonic Quartet in excerpts from grand opera, light opera, and musical comedy. The 2YA orchestrina, under Signor Truda, will also feature selections from opera and musical comedy. Amongst the latter will be three selections which will be entirely new to listeners, . viz, "The Casino Girl," "The Silver Slipper," and "TEN from Berlin." ~ A HIGH-CLASS vaudeville programme will be given on Saturday evening. The 2YA Salon Studio Orchestra, under Mr. Dixon, and _ the Melodie Four will bé heard in. vocal and concerted numbers both grave and gay. Mrs. Winifred Birch-Johnson will entertain. with a comie song and a whistling solo, and Mr. Will Wye, the popular entertainer, will be heard in several humorous numbers. Mesdames Mildred Kenny and M. Tonks will provide the novelty instrumental portion of the programme with a group of banjo duets. From 10 p.m. a dance programme will be presented, and the usual sporting summary will be given at 10.45 p.m.
