Community Singing

Very Successful in Auckland — ee "S S., AWAHOU," 19/9/29. Here- * with please find postal note for 5s. to help the cause, and to show how we appreciate the.singing which we listen in to on Wednesdays from 12.45 onwards. It is our dinner music, and we usually hear you when we are out in the Bay of Plenty about 20 miles off White Island.-The Cook and the Steward." po . This is an extract from one of mary letters received by the Auckland Com} munity Singing Committee which r cently concluded a series. of weekly midday sessions at the Town Hall. Other letters come from all parts of the Auckland province. These midday broadcasts met with the appreciation of all listeners. within hearing of 1YA. This has been borne out by a letter which the station manager at 1YA has received from Mr. Woodhead, hon. secretary of the Auckland Community Singing Committee. The letter reads as follows :- "T am desired by my committee to express to you their great appreciation of the services. rendered by your station in the broadcasting of the community singing during the season just closed, and also of your own personal interest and help in ‘our work. That this appreciation was shared by very many people in all parts of the Nori’ " Island was evidenced by numerous letters and personal expressions received by me, and I think you will be pleased to have the accompanying extracts from some of the letters. It will, I am sure, be as gratifying to you as it is to the committee to know that our joint efforts have helped to cheer many workers in the back-blocks and at sea, as well as the unfortunate people who, through infirmity, were confined to their homes. I hope it may be possible to make similar arrangements next season. I am also requested to ask you to convey to Miss Millicent O’Grady and Mr. Dudley Wrathall, the committee’s sincere thanks for their delightful songs, so readily and efliciently given."
