/First at Newcastle HE broadcasting authoritits of Australia recently made ‘an announcement to the effect that. the first Australian ‘relay station. was to be established \at Newcastle,.and that threequarters of a million are to be spent in this direction within the next three years. -Neweastle/has been #selected because of:many factors; the district contains the greatest aggregation of population outside the metropolis, and the ‘listeners of Newcastle have -been complaining of the fading which they suffer as well as local electrical, interference. , ‘The station will be even greater in power than stations 2FC or 8L0._ ft is stated that 100 per cent. modulation will be preferred, and thus good crystal reception will be given up to 25 or 30 miles.
