Monthly Meeting HE Amateur Radio Society of Wellington held their monthly meeting at the Cambridge Terrace Congregational Church Schoolroom on Tues: day evening, August 13. Mr. I. M. Levy -(vice-president) oceupied the chair; and there were about twenty present. Donations were acknowledge@ as fol-low:--Mr. Byron Brawn, £5; Mr. J. Hi. Owen, £1 1s.; Mr. D. A. Aitken, £2 2s.; Dr. G. W. Harty, £1 1s.; Dr. H. i. Gibbs, £1-1s.; Mr. H. A. Firth, 10s. : Mr. H. D. Bennett, 10s. It was carried unanimously that the secretary of the Post and Telegraph Department be written to intimating that considerable interference with broadeast listening was experienced by. local licensees from warship Morse transmission by a ship at Wellington. It was explained that merchantmen were prohibited from transmitting while in port, but this veto did not extend to warships, and. unfortunately for radio licensees the warships took the fullest advantage of this. privilege, even during local broadcast-sessions. The honorary ’secretary was instructed to communicate with the general manager of the Broadcasting Company, suggesting the holding of vocal, nstrumental, and laughing -competions. , .
Mr. Levy was requested to submit a proposal to the Musical and Dramatic 2YA Advisory Committee that, in order to obtain a greater variety of performanees in each programme, each artist be limited to one item per programme. Mr. Colin W. Smith, technical editor -0f -the "Radio Record," gave an instructive and interesting lecture on the 7 progress of radio from its beginning to | the present day. He also brought an interésting -display of radio valves, | which.were handed round. At the con- | clusion of his lecture, Mr. Smith was accorded an enthusiastic vote of appreciation, and thanks, This address ap- | pears. elsewhere..
