Successful Pianiste
Apiss THELMA WILLOUGHBY, of Wellington South, who is to broadcast from 2YA on April 29, recently gained her L.A.B., and now has been advised by the local secretary for the Royal Academy of Musie that she has been granted a two years’ exhibition at the Royal Academy. Miss Willoughby gained many prizes as a pianist at the local competitions, gaining a scholarship when only 18 years of age, and winning the gold medal in the Schubert centenary competition last year. She was only 15 years of age when she gained her L.A.B. It is Miss Willoughby’s intention to take advantage of the exhibition, and will prohably leave for London in July or August. Miss Willoughby is from the studio of Mr. Gordon Short. She will give a public recital on June 3. On —
the 29th, in addition. to two pieces by Chassin, she will play the first movement of the Italian Concerto by Bach.
