3LO Rebroadcast
Prompt News of Leckie’s Victory LASTENERS to 2YA of Saturday evening’s céncert session were pleased’ to hear the announcement that, provided conditions. were satisfactory, an attempt would be made late that evening to rebroadcast the ringside description to be given by 3LO, Melbourne, of the match between Johnny Leckie of New Zealand and S. Wilson of U.S.A. Following on Leckie’s victory over W. Grime, the triple Australian champion, intense interest was evoked in Leckie’s bout with Wilson at Melbourne, although the general expectation was that victory would come his way. In the hope of hearing the thrilling first-hand report of the contest, a great number of 2YA listeners undertook the late session necessary to hear 2¥A’s reproduction. Fortunately for
all concerned, the enterprise was rewarded by satisfactory atmospheric conditions. The Melbourne station was picked up clearly, static being almost entirely absent, and the rebroadcast so successful as to almost invite comparison with a typical relay of boxing from the local Town Hall, Round by round the combat was followed with intense interest right till the cheers of the audiencé at the conclusion of the fight, in which, of course, Leckie was victorious by a substantial margin of points. The rebroadcast of 8LO was given by courtesy of that station.
