(Taradale. ).

Chieago Logged. J UST a few lines may be of interest to DX Club. On Monday, March 25, at 7.15 p.m., New Zealand time, I logged station WENR, Chicago, at good loudspeaker strength; music could be heard all over the room (12 x14). I an using a Courier 3-valve and two aerials, each about 120ft. long, one north to south, and the other edst to

west.-

LONG DISTANCE

(Queens-

town).

A Message from America. N the January 4 issue, Mr. A. EB. Ireland, of Taradale, seems a little confused over a "Yank" which he picked up close to KGO as "KOM Special Service St: tion-Park, California." He has very likely got straightened out on this by now, but in order to get acquainted as it were, with some of, your DX’ers, I will state what this eall actually is, viz.: "KTM, Pickwick Service Station, Ocean Park, California." It is our old friend KNRC sold to the Pickwick motor stage system and furbished up with a new eall, not so readily confused with KFRC. We have not succeeded in getting any New Zealand stations yet, but receive 2BL and 4QG sometimes, much obscured by ship code, equatorial static and what did you order. The main trouble is one has to get up at an early morning hour to fish for Japs. and Aussies. Until midnight the air is a Babel of _

American and Canadian stations, and as the New Zealanders close down at our two in the morning, our handicaps are enough to daunt any but the genuine, dyed-in-the-woollers, who are inarticulate any way. If some DX’ers will write to me I will be glad to exchange information and greetings.CHAS. H. WALKER, Ridgewood Ranch, Willits, California, United States, Was it SDB? HURSDAY, April 11, at 10.20 p.m., using a three-valve regenerative, I picked up a station at earphone strength on about 250 metres. At first a man, evidently a doctor, was speaking about a special X-ray plant :that he owned. After this a lecture was given by the same man on "The Value ofSunlight to Health." Atmospheric conditions were almost perfect, except for an occasional short burst of mild static, The announcer then spoke, but just as he gave the call 3?? Melbourne a burst of static cut in. The rest of the announcement was to the effect that they were passing over to the Capitol (sounded like Theatre) where a Mr. Nelson would be speaking. Was this station 8DB? Just one degree above this station another station was heard at about the same strength, A dance programme was being given, and the numbers heard were "Cheerie Berrie Bee" and the "Doll Dance." I had to close down then, so I did no hear any announcement. Could anyone tell me what station this was? The Japanese stations have, been received here quite regularly latély, the best two being JOAK and JOGK, which vary from weak to moderate loudspeaker strength on good nights. I have noticed a great improvement in the strength of, thie Australian stations lately and can now receive 2BL at about 6.30 p.m. at ear-

phone strength.-
