ON Tuesday evening the soloists of Madame Irene Ainsley’s operatic party in conjunction with a specially trained chorus will present excerpts from Puccini’s great opera, "Madame Butterfly." This will be produced under the direction of Madame Ainsley and should be an outstanding performance, The vocalists will be Miss Nancye Hanna, Miss Marie Jones and Mr. A. Ripley. Another soloist during the evening will be Mr. S. Pritchard, whose fine baritone voice will be heard in "The Devout Lover" and "Salaam." The Studio Orchestra will also be heard in numerous selections, while Mr. Cyril Towsey will contribute pianoforte numbers. Mr. A. B. Chappell, in continuing his talks on old New Zealand, has chosen for his subject: "The Settlement of Otago." ‘THERE will be a relay of the Auekland Municipal Band on Wednesday evening, which will be under. the baton of Mr. Christopher Smith. This evening’s programme will conclude with items from the studio, which will include 2 piccolo duet, "Rippling Streams," and other popular numbers electrically reproduced. ON Thursday evening there will be contributions by the Savoy Octet, whose previous appearances at 1YA have aroused such hearty appreeiation. Among their selections will be "The Gipsy Chorus" from "Bohemian Girl," "Yo-ho, Little Girls" from "The Country Girl," ‘"Prithee Pretty Maiden" from "Patience," and
several other numbers from popular light operas. On the instrumental side of the programme, the, Auckland Trio will be heard in the "Presto from ist Trio" (Hummell) and "Valse des Alouettes" (Drigo), also the Tui Orchestra, which is a combination new to the microphone, and which will perform various Hawaiian items. ‘THE ever-popular St. Andrew’s Quartet will provide items for Friday evening, including "Pussy’s in the Well." The different members of this combination will be heard in a number of concerted items, which will include "Snowy-Breasted Pearl’ (Robinson). On the elocutionary side of the programme, entertainment will be provided by Mr. J. F. Montague in ‘The Shooting of Dan McGrew." The Auckland Comedy Players will perform a
comedy sketch, "A True Test,’ and by Miss Mary Freeman, in a comedy trifle, "The Safety Pin." Contributing to the instrumental side of the performance will be the Studio Orchestra, who will be heard in a number of classical and popular selections. Me. FRANK SUTHERLAND, the well-known Auckland baritone, will include "Beating up the Channel’ among other items which he will sing on Saturday evening. On the humorous Side of the programme Mr. F,. W. Barker will perform, among his items being "Silly Ass." The Auckland Trio will provide instrumental selections and Miss Molly Wright will contribute cello solos. The concluding portion of the programme will consist of a specially selected dance programme of electrically reproduced items.
= (THE Pitt Street Methodist Chure will be relayed on Sunday evening, the preacher being Rev. Liongi B. Dalby and the choirmaster, Mr. W. Leather. This will be followed by a municipal organ recital from the Town Hall, by Mr, Maughan Barnett.
