Notes from 1YA
ON Tuesday evening there will be a presentation of excerpts from "Les Cloches de Cornville," the delightful light comic opera whose English name is "The Chimes of Normandy," produced under the direction of Madame Irene Ainsley. The cast will be comprised of Miss Marjorie Fair, Miss Irene Rogers, Mr. Arthur Ripley and Mr. Leo O’Maltley, who will also be heard in a number of solos. _ Mr. A. B. Chappell will continue his talks on "Old New Zealand," this time telling us about "Early Agriculture," which should prove most interesting. WEDNESDAY’S programme will consist of a band concert by the Auckland Municipal Band, which’ will be relayed from the Auckland -Town Hall, the bandmaster being Mr. Christopher Smith. This programme will conclude with items from the studio, the artists including: Mr. Frank Sutherland, who will sing ‘"‘Broadways," "Captain Danny," and "A Yagabond’s Song." Among the instruagar > items will be a selection from se j a. $ ; NOTHER programme for Thursday of outstanding merit has been arranged by the Savoy Octet, their numbers including "Queen of My Heart," from "Dorothy"; "Light as Air" ("Faust), "Love, Love" ("The Geisha"), "Blue Danube," and other popular numbers. Also on this programme is Mr. J. F. Montague, who will give "The Lady or the Tiger." The instrumentalists for the evening will be the Auckland Trio, one of whose numbers will be a selection from "TyEnfant Prodigue," and Miss Molly Wright in a ’cello solo, "As Once in Happy Days." HE main vocalists for Friday’s programme will be the Clarion Glee Singers, in popular items, while Miss M. Herald, L.A.B., L.R.A.M., will give a Jecture-recital on "John Ireland." The Snappy Three will also be performing that evening, and will include among their numbers "Breeze" and "My Heart Stood Still." Contributing to the humorous side of the performance will be Miss Alma McGruer and Mr. Duncan Black in "A Bit of Irish," and Miss Murphy in "Henry Edward’s Mother" and "One Month’s Notice." WO artists who recently delighted listeners are appearing again at 1YA on Saturday. They are Mrs. Basham and Mr. Briggs, who will render three numbers from "The Mikado," three from "Ruddigore," and three from "Patience." Mr. F. W. Barker will contribute to the humorous side of the programme on Saturday evening. He will give a character sketch, "Mr. Squeers Opens School" (Dickens), and two humorous items, "The J.P." and "Three Stages of Married Life." There will be a relay of the Majestic Theatre Orchestra, under the baton of Mr. J. Whiteford Waugh on Saturday evening, and the Auckland ‘Trio will include, among its mumbers a selection from
"Lilae Time," while Miss. Ina‘ Bosworth will perform a violin solo, "Souvenir." Bendall’s Collegians in dance music will be relayed from the Masonie Hall, the orchestra being under the direction of Mr. Edgar Bendail. JIVINE service ot the Beresford Street Congregational Church will be relayed from the Prince HKdward Theatre, the preacher. being Rey. Lionel B. Fletcher, and the choirmaster Mr. William Gemmell. Following this relay will be one from the Auckland Town Hall, being ‘a municipal organ recital, in grand organ selections, the organist being Mr. Maughan Barnett,
