Tisteners in America have troubles which listeners in New Zealand do net have. At the present time there is considerable uproar in the United States regarding broadcast regulation. Tlie country was divided into five districts by the Radio Act of 1927 and a great proportion of the total Watts. power of the, United States is concentrated Jin the: most populous districts, that is, in New. York and Chicago. The southern States have complained about diserim-, ination, although the shortage , Of. power, in their areas is due to the . ‘lack of... initiative in erecting stations... In the meanwhile, the broadcast band has beer filled with stations and any ‘power increases in the south, are diffienlt to’ accommodate. , To counteract this situation, a Bill’ is proposed which will require the Iederal Radio Commission to equatise the power distribution in the five districts, To comply with this mandate, it would be necessary to curtail ihe power of stations in the New 9 York area hy. eighty per cent. , 4
