The writer heard a lady novice com. plaining petulantly the other day tha‘ her costly console receiving set did no’ cut out the static. Static is the curse of every radio fan. After paying quit a lot for the latest equipment, he, o1 she, finds that the old crackle sounds just as badly as on a single valver. I is a real shock to discover that mone} can’t buy immunity. Only a_ shor! while ago, an eminent investigator stat ed that static would probably never be eliminated. But it has been found tc be somewhat directional. You receive most of your trouble from the nortl or south, east or west. If you can find out which way these disagreeable wave: cut in, and then use a directional aerial or a directional loop, you will be free part of the time, anyway. The acid from your wet battery is very destructive to carpets or your clothes. If, by chance, you spill aci¢ on your clothes or carpet, quickly sponge the parts affected with household ammonia, which neutralises the destructive effect of the acid.
