The importance of the Watts governor in controlling the steam engine finds a counterpart in the quartz crystal as a device for governing the frequency or wavelenath of a broadcasting station. The recently appointed American Federal Radi Commission, in discovering that nearly one-half of the broadcasting stations are straying from their assigned frequencies, is accepting this thin cleavage of crystal as an arbiter of disputes and as an eliminator of interference in broadcast reception.
