Constructors altering the specified | gauge of wire do not always realise the great difference that really exists between two even numbers, say, 18’s and 20’s. The current-carrying capacity is determined by the cross-sectional area. The area of 20’s is .001 sq. in., end 18’s, 0018 sq. in., or nearly double that of 20’s. The current safely carried with liberal margin is 4.1 amps for 20's, and 7 amps Tor 18's.
