JOTTINGS FROM 2YA
SYMONS-ELLWOOD-SHORT TRIO.
A trio by Reissiger, played rccently, evoked’ considerable appreciative notice by reason of its simple rhythm and pure melodiousness. ‘The one in D minor will prove a rival in the affections of lHsteners-in to the effective one in G played recently. Lovers of tune should listen particularly for the haunting second aud third movements. The happy Schubert never fails to bring musical sunshine into the concert hall. The delightful third movement of the second trio in E flat, and the light-hearted last movement, suggeslive of a hunting song, will win many hearts. It is always refreshing to a lover of music to return to the simple melodic thought and clearucss of ideas af
Haydn. To listen to the pure melody of his trios is like drinking a glass of clearest spring water. A number of these works will be played during the coming months. , The slow movement and the gay, _bustling scherzo of the second trio by ‘Mendelssohn wilt also be performed. ‘Eike Schubert, Mendelssohn makes at’ immediate appeal through the absence of any complexity in his musical ideas.
