Derry’s Military Band has another bright and varied programme for listeners-in to 8YA on Monday cvening. The assisting vocal artists are all of a high standard, too. New to the microphone at 8YA will be Mr. Campbell Brown, clocutionist, who will be heard in two items, one of them Scotch, in which My. Brown is particularly good. One of the songs which Mr. I. R, Hawker, one of the most popular soloists at will sing on Monday evyening, will be "Simon the Cellarer." A popular soprano, Miss Eurice Catfon, a pupil of Madame ‘Otlee, will he singing again at 83YA on Monday evening. , A well-diversified programme has heen atranged for Wediesday evening. ‘The

ever-popular Miss Nellie Lowe will sing, as also will the equally popular Mr. W. Bradshaw; and entertainment of a different nature will come from Mr, Jack Oxley and his zither banjo. ; Miss Wilfred Russell, L.A.B., L.T.C.L., will be one of the singers on Thursday evening. She is taking the place of Miss Belle Renaut, who is absent on. a holiday. Miss Russell's fine contralto voice blends beautifully with those of the other menibers of the quartet-Miss Hane, erton and Messrs. Simner and’ Wilams, ~ me Two items from the "Conntry Girl" will be sung by the quartet on Thiursday evening. Miss Frances Hamerton, one .of .the vocal quartet, gained her L.A.B. in 1921. In 1920 she had the honour of winning the Male Voice Choir scholarship of 63 guineas. Miss MHamerton . studied singing and accompanying in Melbourne, She is a successinl teacher of singing in Christchurch. Miss Nasri Hooper, L.T.C.L,, 2 highly-taiented elocutionist, a pupil of Mr. Farquhar Young, the wells known teacher, will be heard again at SYA en Thursday. Her items will be of a humorous nature, °, Les Marston’s Gand will play ‘from the studio on Friday evening, ‘ ‘Interspersed between periods of dance music will be a number of excellent vocal items. cS Mr. W. J. Richards, a frequent and very popular singer at 3YA, is a baritone of fine quelitv. He is a gold med. allist at Christchurck Competitions. A Salvation Army service is to be broadcast by 3YA on Sunday evening, December J1. Something out of the ordinary run of religious services will be enjoyed by listeners. Brigadier Bladen, who will have charge of the service, will be remembered by many returned soldiers as Captain Bladen, an extremely popular chaplain. Singing will be a great feature of the service. ‘here will be a choir of 130 voices, and the singing will be accompanied by the boys’ band. Commencing last Friday, Mr. J. D. Baybutt is delivering at 3Y.\ a series of lectures on physical culture. The second lecture takes place on Friday. Mr. Baybutt is physical instructor at St. Andrew’s College, and is well versed in his subject. IJwast season he had eharge of the Canterbury College football team and also the representative team, which won the Ranfurly Shield. | "Stamp Collecting as a Hobby" wilk be discussed by Mr. R. J. G, Collins at 3YA on Thursday, December t, at 9.15. Mr, Callins is the author of books on stamps. He is president of the Christchurch Philatelic Society and the New Zealand representative of the Royat Philatelic Society of London.
