Those who are bothered by the thun‘derous crashes of nearby and powerful signals will find some decree of relief through the simnle expedient of inserting a variable hieh resistance between antenta and ground binding posts of the receivine sct, thus bv-nassing the nearby or high voltage sietals more or less to the ground. according to the resistance setting, and bringing the signal streneth down to within the limitations of the recciver, When the usual sirnals are tuned in. the weaker signafs, havine less voltage, are not bynassed so readily through the hich reeistance, it is claimed, and therefore retain most of their power. This is not a wave tran or tuning scleme. it will be noted, but iust a sort of safety valve to nrevent the roof from heing flown off the house when extra loud signals are being received.
