NOTES FROM 1YA
The programme for Tuesday evening has been arranged by Miss Dorothy Youd and will be a special evening introducing "Songs of Long Ago," interspersed with a number of humorous musical sketches introduced for the first time at I¥YA. The concert party will have the able assis‘ance of Mr, Barry Coney, who will contri: bute several pianoforte seles, in cluding works of Schumann and ‘Bowen. Mr. Coney will aiso perform a novelty musical sketch en: titled "The Tale of a Terrace." This introduces a well-known tune as played by various performers. The variety of the. programme should appeal to all listeners. Thursday evening’s programme will be provided by the Aeolian Orchestra under the conductorship of Mr. Edgar Webb. Their items will mnclude several of the well-known overtures, including "Light Cavalry," by Suppe, and "The Military Symphony, No. 11," by Haydn. The orchestra will be assisted by Miss Ina Thomson (corttalto} and Mr. Frank Sutherland (baritone}. Miss Thomson’s. numbers inelude the well-known ‘‘Caro Mio Ben,’’ and Mr. Sutherland’s resonant voice will be heard in "Hybrias the Cretan." | included on the programme for Friday evening will be a Kipling recital by Mr, Culford Beli, the welcknown etocutionist and an: nouncer at 1YA. Some ‘fine violin and flute solos can be expected from Miss Bella Ward and Mr. George Poore respectively on Friday evening. Master David Iunney, whose clear soprano voice is so much enjoyed by LYA listeners, will be heard on Friday evening,
Mr. Dan Flood, whose happy items: are always fooked ferward to, will again delight with Hum: our at the Piano’’ on Friday night. Vocalists who will sing at 1YA on Friday include Mrs. J. Parry (soptano), Miss Thelma Duffin (contralto), and Mr. Ralph Eskrigge (baritone). The municipal organ recital to be relayed from the Auckland Town Hall on Saturday evening should again prove a delight to liszeners. Mr. Maughan Barnett wilt be the organist, and he sill be followed by several well-known artists. The recital with be followed by a relay of dance music’ from Dixieland Cabaret, where the orchestra is under the conductor: ship of Mr. Clyde Howley. The relay of the municipal band concert in the Auckland Town Hall will follow the broadcast of the church service in St. Matthew's Cathedral, where the Rey. Canon Grant-Cowan will be the preacher, ,
