Maori Pageant to be Broadcast
UNIQUE EVENT FOR ANNIVERSARY OF WAITANGI It is the intention of the General Manager of the Broadcasting Comspany, Mr. A. R, Harris, to make a special feature of the 87th anniversary, of the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi, on February 6. The General Manager’s desire is to make this celebration of the hise toric occasion as nearly as possible a "Radio Pageant" of the Maori race, To adopt a pageant to radio will require considerable organisation. This attraction will be of a decidedly unique nature, being descripe tive of Maori life and customs from before the advent of the pakeha up to the present day. The actors will be the descendants of the warriors who the British are not ashamed to admit were never conquered and who now, as citizens of the Empire, live on terms of amity and equality " with the pakcha. ; This "Radio Pageant," if such it can be called, will be broadcast by 2YA, and rebroadcast in New Zealand and Australia, so that hundreds of thousands of people will be listening. It will be a New Zealand night in the truest sense of the word, and should prove an "event" of national importance. The General Manager already has events in train for the organising of the entertainment.
