Wireless has now become a necessary auxiliary in a modern police force, and the New South Wales police force, not to be lagging in this respect, lias lately had installed additional and more modern equipment to assist its members. A 2000-watt transmitter, consisting of transmitting panel and: rectifier pancl, has been installed bv Amalgamated Wireless (Australasia) Ltd, at Pennant Hlills wireless station. ‘his apparatus is "remote controlled,’ for while the equipment is at Pennant Hills, the control apparatus is situated at police headquarters in Phillip Strect, Sydney, and consists of speech aniplifier, microphone, monitoring receiver, aud morse key. There is also a private telephone line between police headquarters and Pennant Hills wireless station. By means of this apparatus it is possible for the Police Department, which maintains its own staff of operators, to transmit messages either in morse code or speech to the police patrol motorcars which are wireless eauipned. The Victorian police have already been using wireless extensively in connection with the motor patrols.
Now’ that the windy season is approaching, listeners should take care to see that their masts are firmly and efficiently stayed. Summer gales ate frequently accompanied by heavy downpours aud much rain, and it is not pleasant to have to re-erect a mast in violent wind and rain squalls A stitch in time saves nine. _ ¢e.* 6 + po *ys 3 @One*
