1YA FEATURES

An Irish night has been ar. ' ranged for Tuesday at 1YA, the bulk of the programme being redolent of the music and mirth of the Emerald Isle. Mr. Duncan Black, who ar: ranged the Scottish concert, about~ which correspondents are still writing their appreciation, will ‘be responsible for the Irisit night. The artists include the popular Orpheus Quariet, consisting of Messrs. Elsie ‘Bentley and Beryl Smith, Messrs. James Simpson, and Duncan Black. Cornet solos, in keeping with thenational spirit of the evening, will be played ty Mr. Fred Bowes, of the Auckland Municipal Band. ’ Mr. Clinton Williams, baritone, whe-4 Was introduced to radio listeners for the first time last month, sings again for 1YA on Wednesday. One ot his items will be given im the studio and the other will be sung in the Baptist ‘I'abernacle with organ accompaniment by Mr, A. E. Wilson. Compositions, by Drdla, Dvorak, and Kreislér will be played on Wednesday at 1YA by Mr. Herbert Hulett, who makes his first appearance then before the microphone. Mr. Irank Sutherland, who sings at TYA on Wednesday, has been chosen by the Choral Society for its performance of ‘‘Cavcileria Rusticana.’? Inci- dentally, "Mr. Sutherland is a Rugby referee of note. Ne has controlled six inter-provincial fixtures this year. Mr. Cvril Towsey, Auckland’s leading pianist, who regularly appears. at LYA, to the delight of all listeners, has some magnificent items for Wednesday. He will be heard in the piano solos ‘‘Moonlight Sonata," by Beethoven, and "Prelude and Fugue in C’ Minor," by Christian-Bach, The ‘‘Moonlight Sonata" is probably one of the best known of Beethoven’s compositions, aud calls on the performer for a high

A feature of Thursday’s concert at 1YA will be the appearance of Miss Mariorie Tiarks, one of the finest ’cellists in Auckland. Miss Tiarks has appeared only once pre: viously at this station, The Auckland city organist, Mr. Maughan Barnett, will be heard trom LYA on Saturday, In response to a general request, two gramophone records will be included in Saturday evening's programme at 1YA. These two records are of songs sung by Ana Hato in honour of the Duke of York on his Visit to Rotorua. Mrs. Cyril Towsey will be singing at LYA on Wednesday.
