What has actually happened now is. that people in New York have scen people telephoning to them from Washington, 200 miles away, seen their lips moving, faces smiling, hands gesticnJating, while their speeches were magnhified on lond-speakers, It is.not very long ago that the editor of ‘The ‘limes,’ having had a talk with his New York correspondent, retcived a picture of the scene at the

New York end within a few minutes of the conversation. ‘The pictures scnt from Washington to New York the other day were instantaneous. As the words came over the telephone the lips from which they came were seen in the act of forming them. Nods and headshakes took their place m tie talk.
