Architect's Claim for Fees.

Professional fees to the extent of £SB us. were med by George Wilfred. Allsop (Mr. Hogben), architect, from Hubert S. Wilding (Mr. A. H. Johnstone), before Mr. J. E. Wilson, S.M., at the Magistrate's Court late last month. The circumstances were that defendant asked plaintiff to estimate the cost of an eight-roomed house. Plaintiff said £1950, and was instructed to proceed with the work, although defendant really wanted a house for about £1,200. The plans and specifications were got out, but the lowest tender was £i,oco ever the estimate, and defendant would not sanction this expenditure. The Magistrate said it seemed as if architects could tell their clients if a house could not be erected for the price available. Plaintiff was allowed 2 J per cent, on his estimate, amounting to £47 10s., and costs £q 3s.
