Our 79th Competition.
The only drawing ("Luke") sent in for this competition is by S. G. Chaplin (with Mr. Phillips,
' feature,' as the question states ' such as a portico porch bay, etc.,' so that the competitors would have to draw more detailed work. Architectural sketching is recognised as a very necessary part of the students' training, and it is essential that . the student should learn first hand from actual structure itself something of the work of his forerunners in the art of building. It is quite unnecessary tor me to emphasise the difference in value between first hand and second hand acquaintance with actual examples. " I would just like to add for the benefit of those who have never attempted outdoor sketching, that it is a most fascinating and absorbing hobby."
