Patents of Interest to Builders.
Tile and Tile Batten —A patent, No. 40240, has been taken out by Win. McLeod, architect, of Wanganui, which should prove useful. This invention consists in a tile characterised by hook-ended lugs positioned thereon so that the tiles may, it is stated, be easily and compactly packed for transport
and so as to lock the tile to a roof-batten and hold down a similar tile in the course below., A tile-batten is provided, characterised by having two parts, the higher and upper part being narrow and having its upper edge bevelled to lock with lugs on a tile, and the other lower part beingbroader and seeurable to a rafter.
CotA patent, No, 40256, lias been taken out by W. A. Finlayson, Riccarton, Christchurch, which consists of a cot formed by separately constructed sides, ends, and bottom members, having its side and end members connected together by breakable joints, and its bottom member resting
upon cleats secured along the insides of the end members, and held in' position by .engaging on one side edge beneath battens upon the corresponding side member and by means of pivoted buttons upon the bottom of its .other side edge adapted to be turned to engage beneath the corresponding side member. Other features are contained in invention. Roofing Tile—A patent, No. 40592, has been taken out by William Pinches, Grey Lynn, Auckland. In place of making a projection or lug at top end of the tile or plate, as is
usual in tiles, to hang same to a batten, there is made at each side of the tile or plate, a distance back from bottom edge to suit the lap of tile or plate, a lug or projection us
shown in drawing the depth of the thickness of tile or plate not less than 1 inch in width, or half the thickness of the rafter it is placed on, and tapering to nothing at the back as . shown in drawing.
