AUCKLAND. There is a proposal to raise £50,000 to build a suitable Soldiers’ Club in Auckland emanating from the Returned Soldiers’ Association. The purpose of the Club, it was stated, would be to provide accommodation for crippled, homeless, returned soldiers, to offer accommodation for visiting country members, and to provide reading and writingrooms, diningrooms, social hall, billiardroom, games, gymnasium and other facilities. It was stated that about £20,000 would be required for the purchase of a site, and that about £30,000 would be needed to cover the cost of the building.
