Paper Bottles.

Paper bottles for the distribution of milk are among the latest American inventions for the healthful handling of food. A company has nearly completed a factory near Trenton, New Jersey, and it is anticipated that the plant will start with a daily outtmt of 400,000 bottles. " These," it is stated, " will be of such a character as to afford a strong' and perfectly hygienic receptacle for milk, so cheap that they may be thrown away after a single use, and still will be able to compete in price with the glass bottles now so widely used m milk service. The new bottles, which are to be composed of heavy, three-ply spruce-wood paper, will be made in three sizes — quarts, pints and half-pmts. The manufacture includes a series of distinct processes. A cone of paper is secured by paste automatically supplied by the forming machine. After the cones have been dried, three different sized bottles are cut from each of them at a single stroke. The bottoms are then put in place, and the bottles are dipped in a paraffin bath at 212deg Fahrenheit Next, in a hot chamber, the excess of paraffin is removed, and the entire paper surface becomes penetrated with the paraffin which remains. The bottles are so light and may be " nested " so snugly that 150,000 may be easily stacked in an ordinary freight car.

'~ To increase a reamer to size when worn, burnish the face of each tooth with a hardened burnisher made easily from a three-cornered file nicely polished on the corners. This will increase the size from 2 to 10 thousandth in diameter. Then hone back to the required size.
