(From our own correspondent.) - ~•*. July 2. Mrs. W. Brittenden and Mrs. J. Hoban, who control the variety stall in connection with the forthcoming sale of work for the benefit of the Cathedral schools, .held a "coin and gift evening" in the Hibernian Hall on Tuesday last. v The attendance was* excellent, and the promoters are grateful for the generous response made to their appeal. Rev. Father Joyce, on behalf of the stallholders, > thanked all those who had .assisted to make the; evening,. the success; it'was. Misses M. G. and K. O'Connor were ■••
responsible for an 'excellent^entertainment, the following contributing items : Mesdames Dickinson (Auckland) and McAleer, Misses E. Rodgers, I. Brooks, M. O’Brien, C. Costello, A. Greenlees, and M. Gallagher, Master McMenamin and Mr. Thompson. A plain and fancy dress social, organised by the Altar Society of St. Anne’s Church, Woolston, in aid of the church funds, was held in the local Oddfellows’ Hall on last Thursday evening. There was a good attendance, and excellent music was supplied by Mr. White. Mr E L any on capably conducted the entertainment, and supper was served by the ladies’ committee. The promoters and patrons of the social were'cordially thanked by Rev. Father Mealy, who expressed grateful appreciation of the consistent helpfulness m their various parochial undertakings, of the non-Catholic people of Woolston, many of whom were present that'evening.
