The first meeting of the newly-formed Catholic Club, was held in the Catholic Hall on Sunday evening, Very Rev. Dr. Kennedy, S.M, presiding. About 70 names were handed in for membership, and a great amount of enthusiasm was shown. It was unanimously decided that the club be known as St. Joseph’s Club, and the membership fee was fixed at five shillings per annum. Being.the off season at present, it was agreed that very little could be done just now' in connection with literary and debating pursuits, the first thing to claim the attention of the committee, therefore," will be to establish a Catholic library and a. reading-room. The formation of a Tennis Club was also advocated and a meeting of supporters is to be held next week. The following office-bearers were elected: Patron, Very Rev. Dr. Kennedy, S.M. ; president, Mr. W. Hally; vice-president, Mr. D. O’Connor; secretary, and' treasurer, Mr. W. Fitzgerald; executive committee, Messrs. M. Healy, D. O’Connell, P. Lynch, T. Knight, J. Mitten, J. Haar, 0. Connolly, W. O’Keefe, and Duggan. ' The usual fortnighty meeting of the local branch of J the H.A.C.B. Society, was held on Monday evening, the president (Bro. M. Healy), presiding. A pleasing feature of the meeting—-the outcome of the appeals of the Marist Missionaries during the recent the initiation of four new members and receiving , the nomination of 21 others for membership. It was unanimously decided to convey to the Rev. Fathers Herring and Eccleton the thanks and congratulations of the branch on the great success that attended their efforts during the fortnight the mission was held. At a meeting of the social committee, held recently, it was decided to conclude the fortnightly socials on Tues- . day the 25th inst. These gatherings have been a great success for while a nett return of £IOO was looked forward to for the season, it is pleasing to mention that this total has already been passed. It has also accomplished a worthy object, the reduction of the debt on the convent building. / '
