Oamaru
(From our own correspondent.) April 7. Mr. W. Collins left for Napier on Saturday to represent the local branch of the H.A. Society at the annual conference at that place. The enrolment of members of the Catholic Federation proceeds apace, names being taken at the church doors every Sunday. It is probable that a very strong branch will result in this district. The article in last week's Tablet referring to Mr. W. Curran's football career in England was read with much interest by the local parishioners and in sporting circles. Mr. Curran was a prominent member of St. Patrick's Club, and a very popular member of the Athletic Football Club for many years As a representative of the Tablet will shortly visit Oamaru to enrol subscribers, it is hoped that every Catholic family will take this best and most instructive publication. The price is now within the reach of everyone, and Catholic parents are especially . urged to become subscribers for their children's sake, if for no other reason. As the result of St. Patrick's Night concert it is expected that over £4O will be handed over to the Dominican Nuns as the net proceeds. This is most gratifying, and unstinted praise is due to the Rev. Father Farthing (organiser), Mr. W. Collins (secretary), and all those who gave their services to make the performance a worthy one, especially Mr. Davys and party, who spent so much time and preparation in rehearsing their dramatic vignette. Miss Cartwright, A.T.C.L., L.A.8., and her pupil, Miss Vera Rankin, are to be congratulated or* the brilliant success lately. achieved in connection with Trinity College musical examinations. Miss Vera Rankin has been awarded a senior exhibition value £9 9s. She also had the honor of gaining a junior exhibition (value £6 6s) in 1911, and an intermediate exhibition (value £6 6s) in 1912. This is a record for New Zealand, and since the awarding of exhibitions by Trinity College, she is probably the first candidate to carry off three exhibitions in three consecutive years. These exhibitions are competed for by candidates throughout Tasmania, Canada, and New Zealand, only two exhibik tions being awarded in each grade, to the two best candidates of the year.
