THE IRISH COLLEGE. .- --t ; ..... The hearty, congratulations offered to the students of the Irish College on the; brilliant' successes they gained at the Concursus held in July at the Propaganda College are more than deserved; for several s years "so many gold medals and first-class premiums have not fallen to the lot of the Hibernians as they received /at the distribution of prizes the other day in presence-of his Eminence Cardinal Gotti, ; Prefect of the Sacred Congregation of the Propaganda '(writes a Rome correspondent). As the list of premiums secured by the lii.sh students is too long for detail, I must restrict mention of them to the highest honors obtainable by them. In the list of those to whom degrees were awarded six Irish students . are mentioned as having won the Licentiate in Theologytwo the Bachelorship in the same subject, two the Doctorate.in Philosophy, eight and six the Licentiate and Bacherlorship respectively in the same branch of learning. In Sacred Scripture one first premium and two seconds fell to the Irish students, and two in Dogmatic Theology • while in Dogma or the discipline of the : Sacraments one first premium with gold medal, and two seconds went to the Hibernians. The second premium in Ecclesiastical History was awarded’ to them - also while, in Ethics, the Irish students gained three first premiums l and two gold medals. For proficiency in the History of Philosophy the second premium and medal are to the credit of the College, to which institution also no less than five first places with r : three medals and one* second places were awarded.. In the Hebrew tongue 1 first and second places were given ,to the Irish students, while a first premium in Profane History has also got to be placed to their account ’//it would be of : interest/ to enter into the number of secondary honors awarded to the Irish students,, especially as there are about a dozen national colleges and religious Congregations entered on the lists for awards. - However, the num- ; ber of first-class awards will be quite sufficient to convey an idea of the secondary, honors given to the Irish students. At the termination of the ; distribution of prizes .the Cardinal Prefect of the Propaganda, the Archbishops, Bishops, and other prelates■ who .were present by : invitation at the interesting-proceedings - were profuse in their compliments to the students of the Irish College on the high distinction obtained by ? them■ on the occasion. - ay fT-7-- ———' . .i&
