OBITUARY

MR. ALFRED D. HARRIS, WAIMATE. - The many friends in South Canterbury and Otago’ of Mr. Alfred D. Harris, of the Empire; Hotel, Waimate, heard with sincere regret of his death, .which occurred early on Monday morning. The deceased, who was a native of New Zealand, and in his forty-ninth year, passed away after an illness extending over several months. The late Mr. Harris, who spent the greater part of his life in Otago, learned the printing trade in this office, and was an honored and trusted employee of the Tablet Company for close on twenty years. About twelve years ago he started in business m Cromwell, after .which he spent a brief period in Alexandra, and eventually went to Waimate about ten years ago. A widow and four young children are left to mourn the loss of an affectionate husband and kind father. Among, near relatives in Otago are -his ; brother, Mr; J. 1. Harris (Hotel Middlemarch, Dunedin), Mesdamea J. and D. Le Fevre (Hampden), and Mrs. J. J. Marlow (Dunedin). The late Mr. Harris was of a very genial disposition, and highly esteemed for his straightforwardness. He was a practical Catholic," and took an active interest in Church matters in Waimate, and he died fortified by all the rites of the Church, The. funeral took place on Wednesday. R.l.P.
