(From our own correspondent.) January 15. A retreat conducted by the Very Rev. Father Murray, C.SS.R., at Mount Magdala, was concluded this morning. The Very Rev. Father Murray, C.SS.R. (Superior), preached a fine discourse at Vespers in the Cathedral on Sunday evening. The annual retreat of the diocesan clergy, to be conducted by the Very Rev. ■ Father P. P. Murray, C.SS.R., commences at the Cathedral this (Monday) evening, and terminates on Saturday morning, after which there will be a meeting of the synod. In view of the unsettled weather conditions tending to injuriously affect the harvest prospect, his Lordship Bishop Grimes ordered last week the prayer, ‘Ad Postulandara Serenitatem,’ to be offered until further notice throughout the diocese.

The Rev. Mother Provincial of the Institute of Notre Dame des Missions, accompanied by Rev. Mother Claudia, left on last Thursday, via Sydney, to attend a general Chapter of the Order, which is to take place in August at Deal, England. The Rev. Mother Provincial intends visiting en route the convents of the Order at Perth (West Australia), and in India.

On January 4, at the conclusion of the retreat at the Convent of the Sacred Heart, three novices received the habit of the Order. The Very Rev. Dean Hills, S.M., V.G., presided, and the occasional sermon was preached by the Rev. Father Bartley, S.M., M.A. On last Monday five novices made their profession . as religious of the Order of Notre Dame des Missions in the Convent chapel in the presence of his ‘Lordship, the Bishop.
