Ashburton
(From our own correspondent.) .-: '■/ '•'.' ' ■•. March 12. Rain is badly needed in and around the Ashburton County, the country being in a parched condition and feed is scarce. The committee in charge of the annual St. Patrick's night concert have for some time been working very zealously, and a very successful gathering is anticipated. The programme at the last weekly meeting of the Catholic Young Men's Club took the form of a progressive euchre tournament. There was a large attendance of members, and a very pleasant time was spent. Mr. T. Berry was declared the winner. The Sisters of our local Convent deserve congratulation on the success attained by Miss Ellen Cullen, whom they presented for the Art of Teaching examination, held in December last. Word has been received from Trinity College, London, that Miss Cullen had been successful. in passing this important examination. She is now Licentiate of the College. %
