Lord Lovat was educated at Fort Augustus Abbey School and Magdalen College, Oxford. In 1900 he became known throughout the world as -the founder of Lovat' s Scouts, an act of patriotism which, with his own personal service in the field, was rewarded by a C.B. and a D.S.O. Some of the finest sporting ground in Scotland is owned by Lord. Lovat, an< i Beaufort Castle, his residence, stands on the site of the Castle of Downie, described by Sir Walter Scott in his ' Tales of a Grandfather.'
