Mossrs. Donald lloid and Co. report : — We held our weekly auction sale of grain and produce at our stores**on Monday, when we submitted a good selection of produce suitable for the local trade. There was a full attendance of buyers, and as competition was good up to valuations, most of the lots on offer were cleared. Values ruled as under: — Oats. — The market has been extremely quiet of late. In view of quotations at obher ports it has been impossible to maintain values, and to effect sales lower prices than those lately quoted liayc to be accepted. The little shipping demand there is absorbs only small quantities of good to prime Gartons and Sparrowbills. Other sorts have blow local sale. We quote: Prime milling, Is 7jd; good tn b("-t, feed, Is 6d to Is 7d ; inferior to medium, Is 4d to 1b scl prr bushel (sacks extra). "Wheat. — Velvet is in request with local millers, but of tliis thcr.o is practically none offered. Nearly all the Tuscan on offer finds an outlet as fowl wheat, for which tliero is good inquiry. We quote: Prime milling, 4s 7d to 4s 8d; best whole fowl wheat, 4s od to 4s 6d ; medium, -Is to 4s 4d; broken a-nd damaged, 3s to 3s 9d per bushel (hacks extra). Potatoes. — Fair supplies continue to arrive, and freshlydug, ripe lots have ready sale on arrival. Stale and unripe linos arc out of favor, and not easy to deal with. We quote: Best, £3 10s to £3 15s; medium, £3 to £3 os; inferior, £2 10s to £2 15s per ton (bags included). Chaff. — The market is fully supplied. Only best oaten sheaf, bright and heavy, has any demand, medium being difficult to sell, and inferior neglected. We quote: Prime oaten sheaf, £3 to £3 2s 6d; medium to good, £2 10s to £2 15s; inferior and light, £2 to £2 5s per bushel (bags ox Ira). Wlraw.— Wo quote: Wheaten and oaten, 40s to 42s 6d per ton (pressed). Mossrs. Stronach, Morris, and Co., Ltd., report for Avcek ending x< cbruary 2 as follows : — Oats. — There is - cry little demand for any description, and very few sales indeed have been passing. There has been a small shipping demand for prime Gartons and Sparrowbills, but other sorts are very slow of sale. Quotations : Prime milling, to Is 7£d; good to best feed, Is 6d to 1? 7d; inferior to medium, Is 4d to Is 5d per bushel (sacks oxtra). Wheat. — There is very little velvet offering, and almost all Tuscan is being used as fowl wheat. Quotations: Prime milling, 4s 7d to 4s 8d; best whole fowl wheat, 4s 5d to 4s 6d; medium, 4s to 4s 4d; broken and damaged, 3s to 3s 9d per bushel (sacks extra). Chaff.— The market is largely over-supplied, principally with medium quality. The only demand is for prime oateii sheaf, other sorts being extremely difficult to sell. .. Quotations: Prime oaten sheaf, £3 to £3 2s 6d; medium to good,. £2 10s to £2 15s; inferior and light, £2 to £2 5s por ton (bags extra). Potatoes. — All good freshly-dug lots have fair inquiry, and are readily sold on arrival. Nothing stale and unripe is saleable. Quotations: Best newly-dug, £3 10s to £3 15s; medium to good, £3 to £3 ss; inferior, £2 10s to £2 15s per toir (bags in). Straw. — Quotations: Wheaten and oaten, 40s to 42s 6d per ton (pressed).
WOOL
Mossrs. Stronach, Morris, and Co., Ltd., report: —
Rabbitskins. — Owing to the small number forward, we did not hold a sale yesterday, and our next offering will be on the 22nd inst.
Sheepskins. — We held our sale on the 2nd inst., when we offered a medium catalogue. Bidding was fairly brisk,
and all classes of skins sold fully- up -to late rates. Best half bred brought from 6£d to 7£d; -medium to good, s£d to 6*d? inferior, 3£d to 4£d; best fine crossbred, s£d to 6*dj medium to good, -4d to sd; inferior, 3d to 4d; best merino, s£d to 6£d; medium to good; 3£d to 4sd; pelts, 3d to 4£d; best lambskins, 4d to sid; medium to good. 3d to 4d. . t i Hides. — Our next sale will be held on the 4th inst. Tallow aiM Fat. — There is very little change to report in this market, as all coming for\yard is readily sold at quotations. Best rendered tallow in casks, 20s to 22s 6d; medium to good, 18s to 20s; inferior, 14s to 16s; best rough fat, 16s to 18s; medium to good, 14s to 15s; inferior, 12s to 13s.
