_-We (Catholic Times) learn that the Rev. P. W Hemans, late Curate-in-Charge of St. Nicholas, Black"wall, E., has been received into the Church. ■ The Latin- Patriarch of Jerusalem has sent to tV Holy Tattler a message announcing that an entire village in Palestine, -consisting- of one thousand five hundred inhabitants, has just joined the Church. * l n **£ P rocession at th e laying of the corner stone of the Minneapolis" Pro-Cathedral a few weeks ago were twenty Japanese converts, who were received into the Church in March and April last by Father Cosgrove, of St. Vincent's, St. Paul, Minn, T^ Rev. Monsignor Howlett, D.D. An unusual incident occurred' alew weeks ajjoTn the Monastery church at Melleray, lowa, when Mr. and. The death occurred recently of Mr. Joel Chandler Harris ( Uncle Remus '), prior to which he was " received mto the Church. The Rev. O. H. Jackson, of St. Anthonys. Church, Atlanta, Ga., from which Mr. Harris was buried, when asked the date of his reception into the true fold, said : ' I had the pleasure of receiving Mr. Harris into the Church on June 24 I had known Mr. Harris intimately for the past six years, and in all that time his belief and his life was thoroughly Catholic. His natural retiring disposition, to my mind, was the only thing that prevented him from taking the step sooner. Mr. Harris had never been baptized in any Church, but his knowledge of the truths of the Catholic Faith was far greater than that of many Catholics.- His favorite books were Cardinal Newman's works, and his weekly companion the Aye Maria, which he always enjoyed. So his request for. baptism was no surprise to me. "
