Dominies College, Dunedin, arrived, in Oamaru on -a visit to the local convent, and to try conclusions ' at cricket. - The match took place on ,St. Patrick's grounds on Friday afternoon, and, after an exciting , and closely^contested game, victory rested ' with the local team by a majority oPio runs. Miss Twomey, ' of theOamaru team, topped the score with 16. In the - eyening the visitors were present at' an entertainment in St. Joseph s Hall, given by the local convent pupils Among, those present were the Right Rev Mgr'
.Mackay, Rev. Father O'Neill, the members of the Catholic Club ,and a large number of parents and friends of the pupils. The programme opened with a piano duet by Misses M. Twomey and D. Potter, followed by a viqlin^duet by Misses Burke and .Miller (of Dunedin). A feature' of the entertainment was an adaptation of the ' Golden Legend,' which was staged by the convent pupils. The principal characters were sustained by Misses O'Meara, M. Ardagh, C. Rowlands, A. Brown, D. Potter, K. Gallagher, L. Magee, X.. Graves, C. Rooney, and G. Hair. The excellence of. the performance called forth loud applause, and the final tableau was exceedingly pretty and heartily received. At the conclusion of the first part a programme of vocal and other items was gone through, the following being the ' contributors : — Song, Miss Kelly; piano solo, Miss O'Grady; piano duet, Misses A. Lynch and J. Pringle ; ' Three fishers went sailing ' Miss K. o'Donnell; dance, Misses A. Molloy and K. Ardagh; fairies' dance,- Misses.. A. Mollov, K. Arda^h! Wmsley D. Potter, and 'Kelly (2); violin solo, IVliss Burke (Dunedin); Irish jig, Misses A. Molloy and K. Kelly. A delightful entertainment was - brought to a close by the staging of several scenes from • Mrs Wiggs, of the Cabbage Patch,' by the local convent pupils, the name part being admirably filled by Miss ° Me ? T r a> whlle Wiss Doris Potter filled the part of Billy Wiggs to perfection. Too much praise cannot be given the pupils for the enjoyable entertainment, provided by them, and the all-round excellence of the various items. The accompaniments were played by' Misses M. O'Grady and M. Maher. On Saturday' the Dunedin visitors were taken for a picnic to Taipo the residence of Mrs. McCarthy, who kindly placed her grounds at their disposal. ,
