The conductor (Mr. A. R. Mills)- is to-be complimented on the fine performance of .the band. . Thef playing- of the band called forth general praise from' the audience. The "band, which

consists- of twenty-seven instrumentalists,- is now. established, and is in the proud position of "being ablY to--holdits own in the musical world. The # following was the programme of the evening :— Hibernian Brass Band—' Killarney,'- ' Spartan,' •' Ado-Y ration,'' ' Lead, kindly light'; songs— Miss Kir wan } Messrs.' Griffiths, 'Couling, Cliurton, Richards-; . instrumental^uartet, -■ Messrs. H. W.^Norris,- J. W. Appleyard (violin), -Cf Campbell - (viola), D. W. McKay (,'cello) ; flute solo, Mr. E. Le 'Petit; trombone solo, Master Mills ; cornet solo, Master- Griffiths ; recitation, Mr. T. Pound; vocal due,t, Messes. N. Churton and Richards ; ' Scottish an;s,' band. The accompaniments were played by Mrs. E. B. McKay and Miss Zela Norris. The band hopes to clear .£25, from the. concert. The weekly meeting ' of . the Catholic " Club was held .611 Wednesday, the programme being a debate, ' Freehold versus Leasehold.' The leasehold, was* .advocated by Messrs. Mulvey, Morton, and Sims, and the freehold by Very Rev. Dean Burke, Brother Alfred, and Mr. Maloney. The advocates of the leasehold were declared the winners of the debate. St. Mary's Tennis Club will open their season by holding j a conversazione in the Victoria Hall on Wednesday, September 9.
