The deceased was a native of County Limerick, Ireland and coming out to Australia' joined the rush to the Bendigo giold diggings, Victoria. After varyino experiences he came to the West Coast of New Zea- ' land at the height of the gold fever there. Here- he was first occupied in forming roads for the Government in the process of , opening up settlement. Subsequently, coming over to Canterbury, he was engaged on the first section of 1 railway construction out of Ohristchurch from • the city >to Ferrymead, under

Father Peoples, S.M. who attended the deceased in his last illness, officiated at the graveside . in Linwood Cemetery The funeral was largely attended, many old residents paying: a last tribute of respect to a worthy fellow-colonist.— R IP
