The devotion of the Forty Hours' Adoration begins in Rivwrton on Friday and ends on Sunday morning.

A bazaar for the extinction of the debt on the local Catholic church Avas opened at Otautau (Mverton parish) on Wednesday evening of this week. A considerable sum h a s already been realised by the auction saile of a fine lot of stock presented by friends to the bazaar, the prices realised being well in advance of current rates.

Work has progressed at a good rate on the new Catholic presbytery, Omakau, since it® inception four months ago. The stone-work is completed, the roofing •is now nearly finished, and in about six weeks' time the substantial and commodious residence will be out of the contractor's hands. Other work in connection with the place is also being pushed forward.

The St. Patrick's Young Mem's Social a "d Literary Club, South Dunedin, held its weekly meeting on Monday evening, when there was a good attendance. The programme consisted of a mock, banquet, and various toasts were proposed arid ies ponded to by Rev. Father O'Neill, Messrs. J. J. Marlow, J. A twill, P. Lawless, T. Mcc, W. P. Nolan, H. McAuley, W. Atwlll, W. Tonar, W. Ahem, A. Ahem, and F. Marlow.

The St. Joseph's Hairiers held their run on Saturday from 'tiie Home of the Littile Sisters of the Poor, Anderson's Bay. The attendance was good, but the gjrouxid bein •; wet proved a trifle heavy. Hughes, Jos. Swanson, T. O'ConneH, T. Ikighes, O. Swanson, J. Quelch, J. Wilkinson,, and Hellier. Mr. T. Deehan, pilayed a flute soio, and Mr. P. O'Gorman gave a recitation. Mr. F. Heley played tho accompaniments. At the conclusion of the musical programme Rev. Father Coffey, who presided, expressed his islcnspre at seeing such a large attendance, and honed that it was the augury of a sxicccssful season. He exhorted the members to be constant in their attendance, and they would by this means make the coining year even more successful than the pu&t.
