The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cabflogram from London, dated the 2nd . , Mutton.— The market is weak, and there is less 'demand except for li^ht weights. Canterbury mutton is in small supply, and is quoted at ii|d. The a\erage price .for North ITsland brands is 3f d, and River Plate old. There is dull sale for hc^y carcases of mutton. There is good demand for all lamb, and the market firm, although tlio weather lately has oeen very unfavourable to its sale. The supply at present meets jthe demand, but small shipments are expected. Canterbury brands lare quoted at n-jjd., and other than Canterbury at s|d. There are complaints of the quality of the New Zealand lamb this season. Beef.— The market is quiet, and there is less demand. Hindquarters are quoted at 3^'d., and fores at 3*dButter.— The market is very firm, and there |is brisk demand on account of thf? difficulty in obtaining suplies. Choicest New Zea!and tutter is quoted at 114s ; Australian, 103s , Danish, ]16s ; Siherian, 109s. Cheese.— The market is. quiet, with a tendency in favour of buyers. Buyers are holding back, expecting; j rices to fgo lower. Transactions are very limited, at an average of 60s. 6d. Hemp. — The market iis quiet, but steady. We submitted a lengthy catalogue of oats, wheat, ' potatoes, and chaff to a large gathering o l the local trade. Bidding was exceedingly brisk, and every lot was cleared at prices fully equal to, and lin some cases in advance, of late quotations. Values ruled as under.
