His Grace the Archbashop will leave next week for Marlhorough to open a new church, at Reiwiektown. He will then journey to Kai^oura, and thence to Westport. On Tuesday last at the Church of St. Mary of the "Angels, Bcxulcotir street, ..Miste Katie Meyer, second daughter of Mr. J. 11. Meyer, of this cityj was married to Mr. J. Croft. The ceremony jwas performed by Rev. Father Venindng. On Friday last Mr. Stirtevant Biggin, Solicitor, formerly of. Nottingham, England, and latterly of ■VVa/ihi, was married at St. Mary pS. the Angels, to Miss Agnes Mary Power, fifth daughter of Mr. Maurice G-. ■ Power, of Waihi, The Rev. Father Moloney officiated 'jat the ceremony. At a general meeting of the (United Irish League held on Tuesday, it was. decided to hold la series of social evenings during, the winter months. The firsVof these will take place on May 7. Mr. T. \Ft. Lyons, an, ardent supporter of the League, has kindly placed 'his spacious- rooms in.. Willis street at the disposal of the League ifree of charge. Tho Thorndon parish authorities have, it is stated, purchased an acre ,of ground in Hawkestone street adjoinUng the late Dr. Grace's residence, for' the purposes of a toys' school. It is understood that the present sch oO i site in Boulcott istreet will soon be the subject or special legislation, and that a new school for the parish of Te Aro will be established. The Doonfinion; Carnival, promoted for the purpose of raising funds in aid of the parish of Thor.nidon, was opened by his Worship the- Mayor, (Hon T. W. Hisiop), on Saturday evening. Short addresses were made by his Grace the Archbishop and the Mayor. Lady Ward and Mrs>. Hislop were also present at the opening ceremony. The several stalls are all well furnished, and! the scene each evening is as bright and animated as one would wish for. A special feature of the entertainment provided, is the charming display of fancy d a ncmg in -whiich about one hundTed and fifty performers, specially trained by Signer Borzoni, took part. The business done at the Carnival during . the week has been "very 'good. Up to last evening, tthe jrross takings total about £650. The carnival will remain open for another week. -On Sunday afternoon his Grace Archbishop Redwood will lay the foundation stone of the Redemptorist Church, Hawser street. The church | is- in the early English Gothic style, and will be emtered from Hawker street. It will contain a working sacristy jin the basement, 20 feet by 16 feet, and' ;ora the main floor, •ai choir 20 feet by 16 feet, a. sanctuary (22 feet 6 inches by 30 feet, a nave 57 feet 8 inches by 38 feet, two porches, each 10 (feet, 6 inches by 7 feet, and two side chapels, each I' 6 feet 'by 16 feet. The 'inside of the building will be finished with wood [floors, Keene's'ce- ' ment wcflls, wood dadoes, and open timber roof. THe outside .of the •btuildiing will be of [pressed brick? relieved with compo dressings. Above the sanctuary wall be a bell ' cote, 20 feet tabove the main roof. of the windows will be defrayed by friends Jof the Redtemptorist Order. The architect is Mr. John S. Swan, and the contractors tare Messrs. Campbell and BurKe. Ihe contract price is £5000.
