REGISTRATION OF TEACHERS IN VICTORIA — . 4 «« — ■ „ . • Catholic Primary and Sub-primary Parochial Schools The following Memorandum respecting the Registration of Teachers in Primary" and -sub-Primary Schools has -been sent to Mr. Bent (Premier of Victoria) :— 1. We have in this State of Victoria 205 Primary and sub-Primary Schools, staffed by between seven and eight hundred teachers. ' / 2. We 'educate in these schools about 30,000 children without any expense toJihe State. 3. These children belong to the same class as those attending the State Schools. 4. In our schools the programme of the State Schools is fully carried out, and the same system of education prevails in both. 5. We aslr, therefore, that in the training and examination of- our teachers, we shall be allowed to adopt, as an alternative, the programme prescribed " for , the- training and examination of State School teachers, , so that' no person qualified to teach in a State School •shall be debarred from teaching in. any of our Primary or Sub-Primary Parochial Schools. 6. We shall always be prepared to carry 'out, under the supervision of the • Registration Board, any im-' provements that may be made in the/ State School programme. • . ~ ■ "~ 7.
