The Wanganui Garrison Band gave a most enjoyable concert on Sunday afternoon to the inmates of the Hos- . pital, there bleing a large attendance of the public-. I must congratulate Mrs. J. Dempsey on being the champion in the Home Indus-tries Section for cbofcing, making jam, etc., at -the recent Wanganui Show. It is with regret that I record the death of Mr. Michael Crowley at the Wanganui Hospital on, the 17th . inst. The interment took place in the local cemetery on Tuesday. — R.I.P, The Rev. Father' Treacy completed his task of collecting funds for the Wellington Cathedral last Sunday. The result of. his mission may be considered fairly successful, about £60 beiag collected. Mr. McNeale, of Rangiwahia, has kindly consented - • to give a lecture on the Irish race and nationality in the St. Mary's Catholic Club rooms on Friday, November 29, when it is expected that there will be a large attendance of members and their friends. _ The euchre match between St. Mary's Club and the Irish Rifles eventuated on Monday evening at Hodson's Rooms, and resulted in favor of the club by a small ' majority. Euohre was followed toy supper, after which a pleasant hour was spent in song, story,, etc. The Rifles intend .returning the challenge at an early date. In his annual report "on the Wanganui Hospital the Inspector-General says : ' The Hospital is a well-man-*Sed institution of modern type. The resident surgeon (Dr. Fergus) and matron (Miss McKenny) are very keen itipanato impirovementß.< The latter seems a particularlycapable woman.' Miss McKenny is an esteemed member ol St. Mary's congregation.
