ST. JOSEPH'S SCHOOL, PORT CHALMERS
The annual prize-giving in connection with St. Joseph's " School, Port Chalmers, took place on December 21 in the presence of a fair gathering of parents' and friends. The prizes were) distributed' by the Rev. Father Heara, who expressed bis sorrow- at the absence of so many pupils, who were unable to attend their annual function on account of measles, which has laid a heavy hand on the pupils of late.' For this reason. the teachers hadl been unable to entertain them -with the usual display in connection with the ibreak»up, consequently his duties were confined to the presentation of prizes. He strongly urged the pupils to maintain the reputation of the school and exemplify the, precepts of their teachers during the vacation by exhibiting kindness and good " behaviour generally during the holidays, aa well as at other times. He congratulated the teachers on the good work they had accomplished during the year, and also the pupils for their diligence in school. The following is the prize list: — Standard II. — General proficiency, A. Albertson ; -reading, M. Birkner j spelling, A. Cabrel ; good conduct and application, Ny Varney; -writing, M. Healy; drawing, J.. Smith. Standard lll.— General "proficiency, J. Flynn; composition,- , Jessi^x Flynn ; arithmetic, G. Amalfitane; reading, R. Cabrel; drawing, A. Varney ; application, C. Amalfitajie.
