(From our. owia correspondent.) , December 9. A retreat was g£ven during the past week to the Children of Mary by the Very Rev. Father O'Parrell, C.SS:R. His Grace Archbishop- Redwood, ,.wiho^g;r6n v ,a.M;si.jtalion to St. Pakick : s parish, • celebrated- eight o'clock Mass this morning, and it must have been very gratifying %g him to 'fintL ""almost the entire congregation* approaching the Holy Table. Both the men's and ladies' branches of the Sacred Heart Society, • Hib'erc mans, and. .Children of Mary, in regalia made an. im- ', posing . appearance. At the" , nine o'clock -M»ss a number of children ." received / their , First Communion. After Mass' the children adjourned to the- Zealandia Hall,j where breakfast was waiting for them,' under the tender care of. the ' good _ Sisters, • assisted .by Mrs. • Blxs. Higgins. After the. eleven o'clock Mass' his Grace v he, ld a, r.ec^ptiou in the J ' Zealaudia "Hall, where he re''ceiVed'deputations from the various -parish "committees, • ' Hibernians, and Young Men's Societies. His G.race administered the Sacrament of Confirmation 'to - a large n'uinber of 'children ~and adults in the .'afternoon, when the church /was- again crowded.., A.t Vespers an impriissive sermon was preached "-" by tlie "Very Rev. Father O'Farrell, after 1 which ther,e was-a reception of the "Children of Mary-- by "his Grace" the Archbishop. The second -aiuiual - concert given -toy. the senior pupils of "St. Mary's.. Convent was held in the Opera House on-,,, Thursday' last, when there; was- a very large - audience. Judging by the hearty applause and the frequent recalls,... it was evident " ;bhose-~ present- were Jiighly' pleased with the - entertainment. :-T'he .stage was converted ittto a veritable garden of palms and arum liiies. It is impossible to pass --the-'singing of Miss Gertruds Perrin in Meyerbeer's ' Shadow song, 1 the voice and rendition demanding, an imperative double encore.
